welcome to goss!
Countless intangible veils separate all universes from each other - and from ours. The fabric of space and time is at its faintest, like gossamer, at these proximate points we share with all other realities. Interdimensional castaways are drawn to safety and arrive on a train in our core world, Hialao. The train system also serves as our lifeblood by connecting five other worlds to Hialao.

With the dimensional displacements not yet showing signs of slowing, and research forever futile on how to leave (besides those who simply vanish, falling back through the invisible curtain), it's impossible to say who might arrive and how they might shape this fragile series of lands, eras and cultures. Good luck out there.

  • in the midst of the junkyard is the arena, a giant area cleared out and then built up with stands all around it. it's here that the people living outside of the city, those that have made their home in the junkyard, pit their mechs against one another. these mechs are not like the ones used by the sniffers; they're pieced together just like everything else in the junkyard, their parts scavenged from broken machines. these battles have become so popular that even some of the citizens of the proper city sneak out to disappear into the audience, the monstrous machines something dangerous and foreign to them. bets are placed and taunts are screamed but all in good fun, because this community is more like a family than anything else.

  • the shell of an old, abandoned warehouse had once sat abandoned in all of the junk, but as soon as people began to make homes in the junkyard, it was repurposed into a workshop for the builders. it's here that anything and everything is made - from homes to household items to the giant mechs that compete within the arena. it's open to anyone who wants to come in and the tools are all shared amongst anyone who needs them, every last person trusting the other not to run off with something that's not theirs and not to break anything that wasn't half-broken already. at any given time, an informal class could be given on mechanics and anything similar, because without a basic knowledge of how machines work, survival is impossible in the junkyard.

  • nearby the arena and workshop is the slum city that's been built on more and more as years have gone by. what started out as only a couple of tiny boxes people called homes has turned into actual long blocks of houses, some big and some small, but every last one suited to the person that resides within. though not as clean or technologically advanced as the homes within the city, these are the preferred home for many citizens who perhaps dislike the affluent lifestyle encouraged within the city, or else disagree with the way things are run there. no one home is alike, and the only way to navigate is by a guide or memory, because streets aren't named and houses aren't numbered.

  • the only thing even resembling nature on parse are the rivers that flow through it - but these rivers don't flow with water. instead, they flow with what the citizens call 'nectar', the liquid that powers everything within the dimension. these rivers that once ran freely have now been taken over by BIOS, domes built over them to keep the power source from being stolen. these domes don't do much to deter those that reside in the junkyard, though; frequently, they're broken into, and nectar is stolen. otherwise, those in the junkyard use what bits of nectar they can extract from the old, broken machines that are dumped outside of the city. those within the city know what nectar is, of course, but they aren't quite as aware of its importance as those that live outside are.
