most visitors who drop by the belontia quarter find themselves coming home with an outfit made entirely of kelp. others with the eyes of a blackbird opt to return with pearl and polished shell jewelry, and if that doesn’t reel you in, some smaller shops hawk wares of fish eyes in a jar, claiming that eating them will cure you of the common cold, or that a pickled shark fin will give you a better sense of smell.
at first glance, the majority of the food offered in belontia is fish. however, the restaurants have also cooked up recipes that incorporate underwater vegetables. from spiny fish to mollusks, the restaurants offer both cooked and raw versions of each dish. although seafood is generally pricey, considering that seafood is all that tethya has, king crab legs and lobster may very well be a common lunch special.
for those who were not blessed with gills, no need for sinking spirits! belontia’s local diving shop provides wetsuits, flippers, oxygen tanks, everything that a human would need to travel outside of the glass bubbles that contain each area of tethya. in addition, the store also carries an impressive inventory of submarine parts, along with running submarine rentals for residents who may want to travel beyond the bubbles while dry.
on the surface, belontia’s black market wears a mask of a pawn shop. however, those who give a secret password to the cashier of the store will be given access to the back of the building. here, the store stocks more uncommon goods such as rare fish, unusual pets, and the more macabre goods. other empty rooms have been set aside for shady meeting spaces, and who knows, maybe you’ll find some canned human or mermaid meat here.
